Yoda and Boba Fett Movies To Follow Obi-Wan Spin-off? – Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Friday August 18th, 2017) Perri Nemiroff, John Rocha, Ken Napzok, David Griffin, Sinead DeVries and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Obi-Wan Kenobi stand alone in the works with director Stephen Daldry

-IT movie tracking to open big in September

-First trailer released for The Killing of a Sacred Deer

-Girl’s Trip breakout star Tiffany Haddish joins Kevin Hart in comedy Night School

-‘The Nurse’ short film win Conjuring short film contest

-Live Twitter

According to a report from THR, the long rumored stand-alone Obi-Wan movie has finally come to fruition. The trade announced yesterday that Oscar Nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry is in early talks to helm the movie, with sources for the trade saying the talks are only in the very early stages – so early in fact that they don’t even have a script. If the deal goes through, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm. Also in the report was the casual mention that Lucasfilm was also looking at a Yoda and Boba Fett movie though no more details were given. As for the Obi-Wan movie, no release date has been set nor is there confirmation that Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role.

According to THR, early tracking reports have come in for the movie IT and for Stephen King fans hoping for a successful debut – prepare to get happy. The trade reports that the Warner Bros. and New Line horror film could clear as much as $50 million or more on its first weekend in release, scoring the biggest September debut of all time. Insiders for Warners however, are being more cautious saying IT could land in the $40 million to $45 million range, noting that a sluggish marketplace and the fact that September has never been known for huge openings, could be a factor.

3) A24 has released the first trailer for The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The Yorgos Lanthimos film stars Colin Farrell as a top cardiologist who has a twisted relationship with a young man, played by Barry Keoghan, that threatens his family and career. The film also stars Nicole Kidman, Raffey Cassidy, Sunny Suljic, Bill Camp, and Alicia Silverstone.

THR is reporting that breakout star from Girl’s Trip, Tiffany Haddish, has joined the cast of Universal’s comedy Night School starring Kevin Hart. The movie will follow a group of misfits who are forced to attend adult classes in the long-shot chance they’ll pass the GED exam. Haddish will reunite with Universal and her Girls Trip director Malcolm D. Lee, on a script that is based on a story by Kevin Hart, and is written by Hart, Harry Ratchford, Joey Wells and Matt Kellard, with additional script work by Nick Stoller.

Thanks to a heads up posted by Screenrant.com, the short film known as The Nurse, has won The Conjuring universe short film contest. The competition was announced last month by Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg, and asked for aspiring filmmakers to craft their own short in the style of James Wan’s Conjuring franchise.

British special forces are testing DEVTAC’s Ronin helmet. It’s being compared to the Boba Fett mask from “Star Wars”, but what this thing can do is crazier than fiction. You can order one from their website.

Josh Brolin Turns Down Avatar, James Cameron Upset – Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Friday August 11th, 2017) Dennis Tzeng, Perri Nemiroff, John Rocha, David Griffin, Sinead DeVries and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Josh Brolin turned down Avatar sequels and James Cameron was pissed

-EW reveals details about Leia and Benicio del Toro’s part in The Last Jedi

-B.P.R.D. to appear in Hellboy reboot – now the movie is simply titled: Hellboy

-Arnold says he begins filming new Terminator movie in March of next year

-New photos released forIT

-Katie Holmes to star in movie version of ‘The Secret’

-Mail Bag

Now that Avatar 2 has begun production, fans can finally look forward to more movies in the Avatar universe. And as far as new characters in the franchise, we don’t have a lot of information – except for some recent comments made by Josh Brolin who revealed that he was offered a role in the Avatar sequels but turned it down. That apparently did not sit well with director James Cameron.

Even more details for The Last Jedi were released yesterday by EW and this time, the spotlight was shined on General Leia and Poe Dameron, along with Benicio del Toro’s mysterious new character DJ.

BUY OR SELL

Yesterday Lionsgate revealed, via a report from MovieWeb, that the upcoming reboot of Hellboy would be changing its title from Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen to simply: Hellboy. As for the movie itself, it was reported earlier that Resident Evil star Mila Jovovich was in talks to play the villain of the movie, but not much else about the reboot is known.

Earlier this year it was reported that the rights to the Terminator franchise would be returning to James Cameron in 2019, with the filmmaker acting as “godfather” for a new installment in which Deadpool director Tim Miller was reportedly in talks to direct. Now, if Arnold Schwarzenegger is to be believed, the next installment could begin shooting as early as next year.

Empire Magazine has debuted two new images from the upcoming adaptation of IT. While images of Pennywise the clown have only been featured in a few spreads from EW, the character has really only been featured in the marketing material and mostly hidden in shadows, or featured in quick shots. The new images now give us a closer and more terrifying look at Pennywise, showing fans of the novel just exactly what the Losers Club will be up against.

Covert Media’s CEO Paul Hanson recently revealed that Katie Holmes has signed on to star in a feature film adaptation of The Secret that is to be directed by Sweet Home Alabama’s Andy Tennant. The movie is based on the best-selling book by Rhonda Byrne, in which a hard-working young widow with three children hires a handyman to fix her house during a terrible storm.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi New Images – Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday August 9th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Jeremy Jahns, Clarke Wolfe, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Disney to pull movies from Netflix and launch its own streaming service

-James Cameron says Stephen Lang is the villain in all four Avatar sequels

-Milla Jovovich in final negotiations to play villain in Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen

-First full trailer released for mother!

-New trailer released for Wonder starring Julie Roberts and Owen Wilson

-Mail Bag

-Live Twitter Questions

In a report from THR, Disney announced that they will be pulling its movies from Netflix and launch their own streaming service in 2019. The Mouse House will acquire a majority of BAMTech, a streaming technology company owned by Major League Baseball; which Disney already owns a stake in but will pay $1.58 billion for an additional 42 percent. Details of partnership came to light on Tuesday, with CEO Bob Iger saying that if a movie is Pixar- or Disney-branded, it will probably appear exclusively on the new service, including shows and movies made specifically for the service. The report states, however, that it is unsure if that will include Marvel and Star Wars.

Now that James Cameron has begun production on the long promised next chapter in the Avatar franchise, talk has turned to the returning characters we’ll see appearing in the movie. In an interview with Empire, Cameron revealed that the Avatar sequels will mainly feature the same characters from the original movie, noting that Stephen Lang’s Quaritch will be the villain in all of the movies.

BUY OR SELL

The Wrap is reporting that Milla Jovovich is in final negotiations to join the Lionsgate reboot of Hellboy Rise of the Blood Queen as the lead villain. The movie is expected to start production in September, and will star Stranger Things’ David Harbour as the title character, with The Descent’s Neill Marshall signed on to direct. Jovovich is of course, familiar to sci-fi audiences everywhere having been the face of the Resident Evil franchise, as well as starring in The Fifth Element.

Paramount has released the first, full trailer for mother! directed by Darren Aronofsky. Details on the plot for the new film have been limited, other than it’s a horror film starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem; with the story involving a couple dealing with some uninvited guests that cause havoc on their quiet life. The film also features Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig and will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival before screening again at TIFF.

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for Wonder, the upcoming drama from The Perks of Being a Wallflower filmmaker Stephen Chbosky. The film is based on the novel of the same name and stars Jacob Tremblay as a young boy born with facial differences that, until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school. As he enters the fifth grade, he faces tremendous challenges but also finds unlikely friends.
